Cambridge Cybersecurity Firm Founded by Priya Nair Doubles Headcount in a Year

Priya Nair's Cambridge-based cybersecurity consulting firm, Vantage Point Security, has doubled its headcount over the past year, growing from roughly 60 to more than 120 employees as demand for biotech and life sciences cybersecurity work has surged across the Boston area.

Nair founded Vantage Point nine years ago after leaving a cybersecurity role at a large defense contractor, initially focusing on smaller commercial clients before winning a series of contracts with biotech and pharmaceutical companies that now make up the majority of the firm's revenue. The company specializes in securing clinical trial data systems, a category of cybersecurity work that has become increasingly urgent as biotech companies handle more sensitive patient data.

"We started out doing security assessments for local businesses that just needed help passing an insurance audit, and now the bulk of our work is protecting clinical trial data that has to meet strict federal privacy requirements," Nair said. "The growth over the last year has really been about finally having the reputation and the past performance record to compete for bigger contracts."

The company's growth has been driven partly by increased regulatory requirements around clinical trial data security, which has pushed many biotech companies to seek outside firms to verify their compliance rather than handling assessments internally. Nair said Vantage Point has had to significantly expand its recruiting efforts to keep pace with demand, competing for cybersecurity talent against much larger firms in the region.

Vantage Point Security reported approximately $21 million in revenue last year, up from roughly $10 million the year before. Nair said the company plans to lease additional office space in Cambridge later this year to accommodate its growing staff.
